The Center for Automation Technologies and Systems (CATS), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is leading the New York State participation in the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Institute, part of the Manufacturing USA network. The mission of this institute is to actively develop, demonstrate and facilitate adoption of robotic solutions in an effort to grow the national manufacturing ecosystem. Current projects include robot assistant in composites manufacturing, robotic welding, robotics surface polishing, and plug-and-play robotic middleware development. All projects include integration of multiple sensors including vision and force, planning and trajectory generation, human-robot interaction, machine learning, and industrial collaboration.
We are seeking outstanding and energetic postdoctoral researchers to help this effort. Candidates should have background and experience in research and practice related to robotics systems, software, design, and analysis. Knowledge in the contemporary robotics tools for middleware (such as ROS), embedded systems, visualization, simulation, motion planning, sensing and control is preferred. Additional experience in related areas, such as manufacturing, human-machine interaction, machine learning, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and cognitive science is highly desirable. Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field.
