Abstract
This project will develop an autonomous fastener system for large-scale rotating joint maintenance, enabling robotic inspection and precision torquing. This project introduces a fundamentally different approach by exploiting the rotational degree of freedom already present in wind turbine assemblies. Instead of repositioning tooling from bolt to bolt, the turbine’s own Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)-controlled motors will rotate the fastener ring through the workspace of a stationary robotic manipulator.
